Overview
The Palace of Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and has been called Minoan Crete's Hubbard. The site was discovered in 1878 by Minos Kalokairinos, a Cretan merchant and antiquarian. In 1900, Sir Arthur Evans began extensive excavations at the site, uncovering a complex of over 1,000 rooms, which he identified as the Palace of Knossos.
The Palace of Knossos is significant for its role in the development of Minoan civilization and its influence on later Greek culture. It is also notable for its well-preserved frescoes and architectural features, which provide valuable insights into the lives of the Minoans.
