Overview
The High Line is an elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail built in Manhattan, New York City. It is built on an elevated section of an old New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line, which runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to 34th Street, between 10th and 12th Avenues. Inspired by the High Line in Paris, the project was proposed by Friends of the High Line in 1999 and first opened to the public in 2009.
The High Line is significant for its innovative use of an abandoned railway line, transforming it into a vibrant public space that combines art, design, and nature. It has become a model for urban renewal and sustainable design.
