Overview
Citadelle Laferrière, also known as the Citadel of Henri Christophe, is a large mountaintop fortress in northern Haiti. It is the largest fortress in the Americas and was built in the early 19th century by Henri Christophe, a former slave who became king of northern Haiti after the Haitian Revolution.
Citadelle Laferrière is a symbol of Haitian independence and resistance against slavery and foreign domination. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
