Parque Forestal La Marquesa is a large ecotourism forest park in the mountains of Guaynabo, just a short drive (15-20 minutes) from San Juan. It spans about 600 acres of humid tropical forest reserve. It serves as a “green lung” for the region: a natural escape close to the metro area, offering both visitors and locals opportunities to connect with nature. Here you your adventure begins with a ride on Puerto Rico’s only cable car, gliding over lush forest to the island’s largest bird sanctuary and aviary. Home to over 125 species of tropical birds—including parrots, macaws, flamingos, peacocks, and the endangered Puerto Rican Parrot—this sanctuary offers an extraordinary close-up look at the island’s avian life. You’ll also visit the park’s monarch butterfly enclosure and land tortoise habitat. Finally a short hike or trolley ride to the park's observation tower for breathtaking panoramic views of the San Juan metropolitan area and Puerto Rico’s northeastern coastline.
