The Wat Rong Khun is the best highlight in Chiangrai, founded in 1997 by the most famous artist of Thailand called Chalermchai Kositpipat. This is a unique temple that stands out through the white color and the use of pieces of glass in the plaster, sparkling in the sun. The temple's construction was initiated by the local community in 1996 to replace an old abandoned temple which previously stood on the site, though construction did not start until 2005. Its final design was realized by local artist called Sala Nok.
