Welcome to the beautiful island of St. Kitts, where adventure and natural beauty await you. We invite you to embark on an unforgettable tour of one of the island's most iconic landmarks - Liamuiga, also known as Mount Liamuiga.
Our one-hour journey begins as we depart from the bustling capital city of Basseterre by 4 Wheel Drive, tour truck, or coaster, and head towards St. Pauls village halfway around the island toward the lush rainforest that blankets the slopes of Mt. Liamuiga. As we ascend you'll notice the air becoming cooler and more refreshing, providing a respite from the tropical heat. Be prepared to begin an arduous journey.
Upon reaching the trailhead, our experienced guide will lead you through a dense tropical forest, pointing out the rich biodiversity that thrives in this unique ecosystem. Listen to the symphony of exotic birdcalls and the rustling of leaves perhaps by the occasional monkeys as you immerse yourself in nature's tranquility.
As you continue your ascent, the trail becomes steeper, and you'll feel the excitement building. The path is maintained but challenging, so be prepared for a strenuous and difficult hike. Don't worry our guide will ensure your safety and provide interesting insights into the history, geology, flora and fauna of the area.
Along the way, we'll take breaks to catch our breath, rehydrate (walk with your personal bottled water) and soak in the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Caribbean Sea, neighboring islands, and the island of St. Kitts itself. These awe-inspiring vistas make for perfect photo opportunities, so don't forget your camera.!
As we near the summit, the trail opens up revealing the massive crater of Mount Liamuiga. This dormant volcano stands at 3,792 feet (1,156 meters) above sea level and offers a truly otherworldly experience. Take a moment to marvel at the rugged beauty of the crater and imagine the powerful volcanic forces that shaped this landscape.
After relishing the summit's beauty and capturing memories to last a lifetime, we'll begin our 2-hour descent, retracing our steps through the enchanting rainforest. You may catch a glimpse of the elusive wildlife, such as monkeys or colorful tropical (small) birds, as they go about their daily routine.
Upon reaching back to the trail take about an hour of relation for some refreshments of island fruit juices and sweet bread (e.g banana) and seasonal fruit such as watermelon.
After about an hour of refreshing yourself, we will bid farewell to Mount Liamuiga making our way back to Basseterre to the port or hotel. Reflect on the incredible adventure you just experienced!
Please note that this is a strenuous hike and entails an elevation of over 2,000 feet with steep and challenging forest and mountainous terrain which can cover ten miles and more. Do not attempt this hike if you have breathing, lung, heart or physical issues. This hike is considered to be further away from civilization, involves a drive to the starting point, a long walk via a trail using assistance by custom-made walking sticks, and definitely, “A Guide”. Ensure you have water, light snack, (to keep you energized) sturdy footwear (sneakers), a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and any other item to perform as comfortable as possible for the duration.
