Ponta Do Sol is a gracious town that has a spacious main square and a beautiful townhall.
We gather at the tiny but lively harbour in front of the Tiduka hotel. Here we meet, have a coffee, and observe the activities that are taking place in the harbour. After a short introduction it is time to go for a hike! We walk up the steep mountain path and pass through colourful streets, green valleys and ocean landscapes. We are on our way to Fontainhas.
Fontainhas is the village with one of the most beautiful views in the world according to National Geographic. This fairy-tale village in situated on a high edge of the top of a mountain surrounded by vegetation and farming fields with a view to the Atlantic Ocean with a black sandy beach where one can go for some relaxation. We will have a short break here while the guide connects you with the history and people.
We continue our hike down a steep path through the villages Corvo, Formiguinhas and Aranhas.
Our guides have extensive knowledge of animals and endemic plants. If we are lucky, we can spot different turtle and whale species.
After we leave Formiguinas we arrive in the 'forgotten village'. This abandoned village is unique in its own away. You will find out why this village was abandoned and why the ribeira lost it's colour on this side of the mountain.
We can have our lunch here in a local restaurant.
While we hike back up the volcanic rocks the guide explains about the different geography that can be seen. We walk along the coast where we potentially see ospreys.
When we arrive in Cruzinha our car will pick us up. You can relax and rehydrate yourself while we bring you back to your accommodation.
