Next, we continue to the fishing village of Volendam, located by the Markermeer, where you can see traditional fishing boats and the folkloric costumes worn by the locals. Here, you can take a stroll through the village, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy a delicious fish lunch. There are also several museums worth visiting.
From Volendam, you can take a boat to the former island village of Marken, which has been connected to the mainland by a causeway since 1957. This peaceful fishing village in the Markermeer is famous for its wooden houses built on stilts, its typical drawbridges, and the traditional life of its (former) island inhabitants.
