About this experience

Much more than just a sightseeing tour! This historical tour (in English) combines stunning Alpine scenery with fascinating WWII history.

Beginning with an explanation of the history of Obersalzberg; you'll learn why the mountainside was so decisive, and how and why it became so important to Hitler.

You'll then travel in one of the mountain buses up to the Eagle's Nest and be shown around the historic building paying particular attention to the many original features that still remain, including the famous brass elevator.

The tour will include ample opportunities to take photos and ask any questions you may have.

The tour also includes ca. 1 hour of free time to yourselves once the guide has finished with all of the historical information. However this is flexible and can be extended (at no additional cost) if you'd like to spend longer up at the Eagle's Nest. Simply speak to your guide on the day of tour and they will be able to make the necessary amendment to your ticket.

This is the meeting point for the tour (Salzbergstrasse 45, 83471, Berchtesgaden, Germany).

Our experienced guide will meet you at the top of the stairs, below the blue & white flags, at the Eagle’s Nest bus departure location.

They will begin the tour with an explanation of the history of the Obersalzberg mountainside; an area that comprised a sprawling compound during the National Socialist regime, learning about why the mountainside was so decisive, and how and why it became so important to Hitler during the Nazi dictatorship.

The introduction will be accompanied by a selection of period photographs to help you to visualise the grand structures and how they formerly made up the once vast Alpine heaquarters.

Stop 2

You'll travel together with your guide in one of the specially designed mountain buses driving up the private road to the Eagle's Nest.

You will be shown around the historic building paying particular attention to the many original features that still remain, including the famous brass elevator, and learning the details of the impressive construction of Hitler's mountaintop masterpiece.

The tour will include ample opportunities to take photos, ask any questions you may have, and also some free time to explore the Eagle's Nest independently.

Not forgetting that the Eagle's Nest is today a restaurant, you'll also have a chance to grab a quick bite to eat or enjoy a Bavarian beer.

OPTIONAL VISIT AFTER THE TOUR.

After the tour is finished you will arrive back at the original meeting point. The Obersalzberg Documentation Centre & Bunkers are located very close by, ca. 5 minutes' walk.

The tour ticket also gives you free entry into the Centre and Bunkers, if you would like to visit them after your tour.

Getting Here

If you are arriving for the tour by car, there are 3 paid parking lots located directly at the address.

If arriving for the tour via public transport, the 838 bus from the Berchtesgaden bus station will bring you to the meeting location; the stop you need is called “Dokumentation Obersalzberg”.

Useful Info For Your Visit

We recommend you dress accordingly for local weather conditions and bear in mind we will be travelling to the peak of a mountain. Weather can be changeable and can often change very quickly. The tour involves being outside in all weathers, so if the forecast suggests rain, please be prepared to be outside in the rain. During your free time up at the Eagle’s Nest, you will have the opportunity to walk along a hiking trail behind the building, along a stoney path, with concrete steps. We would recommend wearing comfortable, sensible walking shoes if you wish to do this.

For cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, or in the case of no-shows or arrivals after the tour already departed, there will be no refunds.
