About this experience

Sintra is classified as World Heritage, a true treasure for its natural richness, its monuments and an inexplicable magic. This tour focuses on the most emblematic places and all the singularities that make this a unique landscape. This experience with a local guide will be a blessing, with the scenery changing as we take the road from the mountain, stopping at the westernmost point of Europe, continuing along the coast, ending in the center of Cascais. We will pass by the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, Biester Palace, Sintra National Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, Monserrate Palace and you can choose to visit.
From lush gardens, lakes, caves and mystical constructions that hide alchemical meanings, such as those evoked by Freemasonry, Templars and Rosicrucians. Unmissable.
Cascais will be the second attraction on this tour, a place that was once a fishing village, is now a paradise of beauty and glamor by the Atlantic.

Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

The National Palace of Sintra, also known as Palácio da Vila, was one of the palaces used by the Portuguese Royal Family practically until the end of the Monarchy, in 1910.

2
Stop 2

We will pass through the gardens and the palace. It represents one of the best expressions of 19th century Romanticism in the world. Rising on a steep rock, it is the second highest point in the Serra de Sintra.
On July 7, 2007, it was chosen as one of the seven wonders of Portugal, being, in fact, the first romantic palace in Europe, built about 30 years before the charismatic Schloss Neuschwanstein, in Bavaria. From the Palace, the visitor can see a mantle of trees that occupies more than 200 hectares, thus constituting the Parque da Pena.
This park has beautiful paths and walks, with numerous garden constructions existing there. There are bridges and caves, garden benches, pergolas and fountains. Greenhouses and nurseries with camellias, rhododendrons and roses of unusual and very rare strains.
The entire Parque da Pena is today considered the park in Europe, with the richest and most unusual set of tree species that no longer exist in many other countries and continents where they originate.

3

Moorish Fountain
Built in 1922, with a project by Master José da Fonseca, the Moorish fountain was built with the aim of enhancing the entrance to the village and “dignifying the most appreciated water in Sintra”.

The widening of the road, in 1960, forced the dismantling of the fountain, being rebuilt 20 years later, not in its original place, but in the middle of Volta do Duche.
In the revivalist architecture of the fountain, the great arch stands out, in which three other arches appear topped by neo-Moorish tiles, standing out in the center, the stone of arms of the municipality.

4

The Town Hall building is strategically located between the two neighborhoods of Sintra: Vila Velha and Vila Nova da Estefânia.

6
Stop 6

Admire the beauty of Castelo dos Mouros. Castelo dos Mouros is a ruined castle nestled among the lush forests of the Serra de Sintra, a privileged spot to admire the view that stretches from Sintra to the sea.
Winding along two peaks of the Serra de Sintra, the Castle dates back to the beginnings of the peninsular occupation by the Moors, in the 8th century.

7
Stop 7

Also known as Palácio do Monteiro dos Milhões, a name associated with the nickname of its former owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro.
The palace is located on the slopes of the mountains and a short distance from the historic center of Sintra.
Carvalho Monteiro, through the lines of the Italian architect Luigi Manini, transforms the 4-hectare farm into a palace surrounded by lush gardens, lakes, caves and enigmatic buildings, places that hide alchemical meanings, such as those evoked by Freemasonry, Templars and Rosicrucians. It models the space in mixed layouts, which evoke Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Manueline architecture.

Quinta da Regaleira is a place to feel. It is not enough to tell him about the memory, the landscape, the mysteries. It is necessary to get to know it, contemplate the scenography of the gardens and buildings, admire the Palace, a true philosopher's mansion of alchemical inspiration, walk through the exotic park and feel its spirituality.

8

Place of passage through the Palace of Seteais. Here we find the postcard picture of this tour. We enter through the gardens and go to the viewpoint area. An incredible view where you can see the convent of Mafra.

9

Casa Biester is located at the beginning of the Serra de Sintra, from where you can enjoy one of the most wonderful views of Sintra.
this building was the scene of the movie "The Ninth Door" with Jonny Depp.

10

The exuberant romantic garden and the palace, built by Francis Cook, an English millionaire, are unique testimonies of the eclectic spirit of the 19th century.
Among exotic trees, waterfalls and lakes, walk to discover a unique park.
The gardens received species from all over the world and were organized by geographic areas. The lawn in front of the Palace allows for a well-deserved rest while discovering one of the richest botanical gardens in Portugal.

11
Stop 11

Stop to see the sights of this magical place.
Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of mainland Portugal and continental Europe.

12

Stop to see the village of watermills.
At the bottom of the small promontory on which the village of Azenhas do Mar is located, on the coast of Sintra, there is a small beach with rocks that retain water at low tide, forming a natural pool. The sea, the little beach and the houses, framed by majestic cliffs, constitute one of the most beautiful scenarios on the Portuguese coast.

13

Located by the sea and traditionally a fishing village, Cascais underwent significant development in the 19th century. XIV, when it was a port of call of great movement for ships heading to Lisbon.
Passing through Guincho, Cascais Marina and the historic center.
