Better known as the Pope's square, it is located on the top of a hill, next to the Mangabeiras Park, where it serves as a belvedere to appreciate the immensity of the city with its buildings. People go there to enjoy nature, see the city, spend a quiet day, away from the chaotic traffic of the capital.

The Parque das Mangabeiras was designed by the famous landscape gardener Roberto Burle Marx and preserves, in its area of 2,8 million square meters, 21 sources of the Córrego da Serra, that takes part on the São Francisco river basin . The fauna meets 28 mammalian species, 160 birds, 20 reptiles and 19 amphibia.

From one of the highest points in Belo Horizonte, in 1980, Pope John Paul II looked back and saw intact mountains and, ahead, a city as far as the eye could see.
