About this experience

Today’s tour begins at 4:30 AM with the first opportunity to visit Angkor Wat temple at sunrise. After experiencing the breathtaking sunrise, we will take a breakfast break. Following breakfast, we will continue to explore Angkor Thom, visiting its South Gate, West Gate, North Gate, and East Gate. We will also tour several significant sites within Angkor Thom, including Baphuon Temple, the Angkor Ancient Royal Palace, Phimeanakas Temple, the Elephant Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King.

The equinox sunrise casts a stunning glow behind the towers of Angkor Wat, making it the premier location in Siem Reap to witness a spectacular sunrise.

I suggest an early morning excursion where we position ourselves in front of the reflection pool. With a bit of luck, the colors of the sky will beautifully illuminate the temple, allowing us to capture this iconic site at its most magical moment.

Stop 1

The tour begins at 4:30 AM, departing from your hotel to witness the breathtaking sunrise at Angkor Wat. The Angkor Wat sunrise is the most popular tour in Cambodia and is a solar phenomenon considered a hierophany that occurs twice a year during the spring and autumn equinoxes. This event is part of the many astronomical alignments that highlight a "fairly elaborate system of astronomy" and reflect the Hindu influence in the construction of the vast temple complex of Angkor Wat.

Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world and is renowned for being one of the best-preserved. It is also an architectural masterpiece of the Khmer civilization. Its perfection in composition, balance, proportions, relief, and sculpture makes it one of the finest monuments globally.

Angkor Wat combines two fundamental designs of Khmer temple architecture: the temple-mountain and the later galleried temple. It is designed to represent Mount Meru, the home of the devas in Hindu mythology.

Angkor Thom served as the fortified capital city of Cambodia during the height of the Khmer Empire. it was established by King Yasovarman I. The name "Angkor Thom" translates to "Great City" and reflects its significance as a major urban center.

This impressive city is home to numerous Hindu and Buddhist sanctuaries, including the royal palace and the famous Bayon Temple, known for its iconic smiling faces. Angkor Thom is uniquely designed with monumental gates that correspond to the cardinal directions, each adorned with towering statues of demons and gods that symbolize the cosmic struggle between good and evil.

The city's layout features a series of impressive structures, including the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, which showcase the architectural brilliance and artistic achievements of the Khmer civilization. It remains a testament to the grandeur of the Khmer Empire and continues to captivate visitors with its rich history and stunning architecture.

During his reign, he successfully put an end to religious conflicts, fostering an era of peace and harmony in his kingdom. Under his leadership, both Hindu and Buddhist communities coexisted peacefully and happily. He is often referred to as the "King of the Khmer Universe" due to his significant contributions to the welfare of his people.

In addition to the Bayon Temple, King JVII established over 100 royal hospitals to ensure the health and well-being of his citizens, providing free healthcare services to all. He constructed numerous temples dedicated to his family and the welfare of his people, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire and attract visitors from around the world.

Ta Prohm is the most famous jungle temple in Cambodia, renowned for its appearance in the Hollywood blockbuster "Tomb Raider." Built by King Jayavarman VII in 1186, this temple is dedicated to his mother and is represented by Prachnabaramita, the goddess of mercy and the embodiment of wisdom in Mahayana Buddhism. The name "Ta Prohm" translates to "Brahma God," while its original name, "Rajavihara," means "The Royal Monastery."

Located approximately 6 kilometers northeast of Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm is uniquely captivating due to the intertwining trees and roots that envelop its ancient ruins, creating a breathtaking fusion of nature and architecture. This striking visual has made it a must-visit destination for tourists from around the globe.

The best times to explore Ta Prohm are early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the temple is less crowded, allowing for a more serene experience. Additionally, Ta Prohm has historically served as an important royal school.
