The Ben Thanh Market is the second-largest indoor wet market in Ho Chi Minh and is also one of the oldest surviving markets. It is an iconic destination as well as a cultural symbol in the city. It originated in the early 17th century when street vendors would gather by the Saigon River to sell their wares. The market was moved to its current location in 1912 and renovated in 1985. Its name is Ben (which is derived from the word harbor) and Thanh (derived from the word citadel) has nearly 1,500 stalls where you can find anything you could possibly need.
