About this experience

The tour to Peles and Cantacuzino castles comprises beauty and history in one. Peles is Europe's first electrified castle with all modern utilities including central heating, running hot and cold water, central vacuum cleaner, an electrical elevator and much more already from the beginning of the 20th century.

Visiting Peles Castle is almost like being inside an art work itself, every step we take inside we get mesmerized by every small detail, the different carvings, paintings and furniture piece competing with well known castles and palaces around the world.

Cantacuzino Castle was the summer home of a well known politician of the 19th century Grigore Cantacuzino. He used to be one of the wealthiest man in Romania at that time and decided to construct this authentic monument with a breathtaking panorama to the Bucegi Mountains. The Castle constructed in Neo-Romanian architectural style is surrounded with alleys and pathways which lead to fountains, waterfalls and small caves.

Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Drive from Brasov to SInaia approx. 50 minutes. The expansive, Bavarian-style Peleș Castle was built among a lush forest to house Romania’s royalty in the 19th century and is among the most beautiful in Europe. A guide will lead you through many of its immaculate, ornate rooms, still adorned with luxuriant furnishings and décor. You’ll also have the chance to tour the neighboring Pelișor Castle, a smaller royal residence decked out in art nouveau finery.

2
Stop 2

The Sinaia Monastery, located in Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania, was founded by Prince Mihail Cantacuzino in 1695 and named after the great Saint Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai in Egypt. As of 2005, it is inhabited by 13 Christian Orthodox monks led by hegumen Macarie Boguș. It is part of the Bucharest archdiocese.
The Old Church was built in 1695. In 2006, it was closed to begin a restoration project to return it to its former beauty. The original interior painting was completed by Pârvu Mutu and were restored for the first time in 1795. The Old Church has reopened as of 2016.

Lunch break about 30-45 minutes.

3
Stop 3

Drive to Busteni about 20 minutes.
Cantacuzino Castle got a completely new vibe in the new "Wednesday" series.
Cantacuzino Castle from Busteni was built and inaugurated in 1911 at the wish of Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino (also known as “the Nabob”- prime minister of Romania between 1899-1900 and 1904-1907).
The castle, built in Neo-Romanian style, is surrounded by a park which take you to the grotto, cascades and fountains. The Reception Hall houses a unique collection of heraldry in Romania. The building made of bricks and stone stretches over a surface of 3148 sqm.
The decorations give the interior a strong romantic ambiance. The fireplaces made of white stone and bearing polychrome mosaics complete the atmosphere of a manorial residence, increasing the value of the building.
The castle holds an unique collection representing the coat of arms of the Boyar families related to the Cantacuzino family members of the Wallachian side.

Drive back to Brasov about 40 - 50 minutes.
