About this experience

By this day trip, you will visit two of the most important sites of Northern Macedonia – its Capital Skopje, and one of the breathtaking natural wonders – Matka Canyon.
While exploring the old part of Skopje with its authentic sites, we will dive into the past and get to know the modern understanding of the history that the Macedonians have while walking in the new part of the city, rebuilt during the “Skopje 2014” project. In the end, we will take a break from all the history and new facts and rest our minds in the heavenly nature of Matka Canyon.

Your day begins with a morning pick-up from your centrally located hotel in Sofia. During the scenic four-hour drive to Skopje, your Bulgarian guide will provide fascinating stories and historical context about the Balkans, giving you a deeper appreciation for the region.
Upon arrival in Skopje, a local guide from the city will lead you on a 90-minute walking tour, enriching the experience with personal insights and in-depth knowledge of this unique capital. You’ll explore the charming Old Bazaar, filled with Ottoman architecture and vibrant local life, then continue to the Skopje Fortress for sweeping city views. From there, you’ll cross the historic Stone Bridge into the heart of the city, where Alexander the Great Square showcases a bold blend of past and present. The tour ends with a visit to the Memorial House of Mother Teresa, honoring Skopje’s most revered figure.
This will be a full and dynamic day with no free time in Skopje, so come prepared for an engaging and memorable trip

Unfortunately, the itinerary will not allow you to have free time for lunch in Skopje. It is good to take some fast food during the walking tour or bring some sandwiches with you. You can buy it from a petrol station before arriving in the city.
After the walking tour, your local guide will drive you to Matka Canyon, where you will have approximately an hour and a half to admire the beauty of nature. You will have a boat trip inside the canyon, you will pass by probably the deepest underwater cave in the world. After that, at 16:00, you will meet with the rest of the group and depart back to Sofia.
During driving, you will be able to discuss your impressions and ask all your questions.
