Roskilde is a town in Denmark located in the north of the island of Zealand, at the end of the Roskilde Fjord, which overlooks a small harbour. Roskilde is also the capital of the municipality of the same name, the largest city in the administrative region of Seland, with 47,828 inhabitants, and the tenth largest in the country.

The ship exhibition is located in the harbour that gives access to the fjord, the departure point of many ships. Also, among the vessels in the collection is the largest Viking ship in the world. Its 37-metre length could hold up to a hundred warriors ready to fight wherever it docked.
