Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

The Piazza Grande or Piazza Maggiore is the historical and geographical center of Bologna. For this reason, it is one of the first places you will visit when you arrive in the city.
It is a square that preserves all its medieval style. In addition, around it there are several buildings of great historical value, such as the Basilica of San Petronio, the Neptune fountain, among many others.

Undoubtedly, this is a splendid place to connect with Italian customs.

2
Stop 2

The history of this basilica is fascinating. In fact, its construction dates back to 1390 and it was the place where Charles V was crowned.

However, the enlargements of this construction were stopped by orders of the papal authorities, since it was very close to being a basilica as big as St. Peter's in Rome.

Despite this historical episode, the basilica of San Petronio is the fifth largest in the world.

3
Stop 3

This is the most famous fountain in the city. It was created in 1563 and has since become a symbol of Bologna.

This imposing construction was made by Tommaso Lauretti with finishing touches by a sculptor known as John of Bologna.

It is a very emblematic place to which visitors and locals of the city often go.

4

Bologna is home to what is considered to be the oldest university in the world. It is believed to have been founded in 1088 by Irnerius.

This university attracts year after year many students from Italy and all over the world, which gives a lot of dynamism to the city.
