Dive into Lankaran’s rich history and visit the historic house museum that once belonged to Mir Akhmad Khan, a descendant of the last ruler of Lankaran Khanate – a province that existed on the territory of Azerbaijan, between 1747 – 1828. Exhibits range from home furnishings of the day and national clothes to carpets and paintings displaying Mir Akhmad Khan and his wife, Tughra khanym.
There is a very famous and historical in Lankaran where Joseph Stalin was kept for a period of time. Then The M. Rasulzadeh, founder of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, helped Stalin escape through a secret underground tunnel to the famous Mayak Lighthouse (a central figure and source of pride within Lankaran) and then onto the Caspian Sea.
Hazi Aslanov, a prominent military commander, a skillful tanker, and courageous commander, is a native of Lankaran and the only Azerbaijani that has been nominated two times for the Hero of the Soviet Union.Hazi Aslanov House Museum was open in 1969, and it was first thoroughly renovated by the 100th anniversary of the commander in 2010. Out of 2,040 stored exhibits in the house museum, 306 are Hazi Aslanov’s personal documents and items.
The Hirkan National Park is one of the pearls of Azerbaijani nature located in the south of the country, in the heart of the Talysh Mountains.The park is covered mostly with a subtropical forest that is home to leopards, lynxes, martens and brown bears. Hirkan also contains 150 endemic species of plants, ranging from the chestnut tree oak and figs, to the ironwood. Here, you won't find any camping areas, cafes, bars, restaurants and other such delights of modern tourism because this area is home to a natural wilderness dating back 60 million years with its own truly unique flora and fauna.
