Start your day with a pickup from your Crete hotel, then climb inside an air-conditioned coach and relax as you journey to Acqua Plus. Located 18.6 miles (30 km) from Heraklion, it was the very first water park in the Balkan region and boasts more than 50 different slides, games and facilities.
On arrival, pick up a map and plot your day. If you’ve come with children, maybe make your way to the section designed specifically for younger customers. Otherwise, head for the more extreme slides in the adult section.
As you walk around the park deciding what to do first, marvel at the incredible sight of slides peeking out under weeping willows, and soak up beautiful views of the island from the park’s vantage point atop a hill.
Choose to get off to a leisurely start with a float down the lazy river. As you drift along the waters, admire the beautiful flowers and palm trees that are dotted around the luscious grounds. Alternatively, head for the crazy river for a faster family-friendly cruise.
If you’re looking for thrills, make for the Tsunami. Hold on tight as your rubber ring teeters on the edge of the slide and then comes thundering down the long drop. Then, set your teeth on edge with a ride on the black hole slide. Be startled by beams of light and shocking sound effects as you come shooting down dark tunnels, and feel the wash of relief when you plunge into the pool for the final splashdown.
To keep your energy levels up throughout the day, visit the restaurant where you can purchase traditional Greek fare as well as burgers and fries (own expense). There’s also a cafe by the children’s playground and a hot dog stand. If you have upgraded to the all-inclusive experience, recharge with your included meal, drink and ice cream in the restaurant.
Later, perhaps find yourself an umbrella and a sun lounger so you can relax and dry off under the Cretan sun. Then, when the time comes, return to your coach for the journey back to your hotel.
Please note: Acqua Plus Water Park is open between May and September only. Exact dates dependent on weather conditions.
