About this experience

On this amazing sightseeing tour from Flåm on a minivan with a private driver-guide, you will explore the natural wonders of the Norwgian Fjord landscape are - inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage list.

You will first stop at Stalheim hotel to enjoy the view of the stunning Nærøydalen valley, then walk up close to the Stalheimsfossen waterfall, before coming to the charming village of Gudvangen.

In Gudvangen you can to witness the gorgeous Nærøyfjord – one of the two UNESCO World Heritage fjords. Here you can also visit a real modern day Viking Town (optional).

After Gudvangen, on to the famous Stegastein viewpoint above the Aurlandsfjord. A thrilling ride on a hairpin turn road takes you to an elevation of 640 meters / 2099 feet above sea level. The view is stunning!

Duration of the tour: approx. 4.5 hours. You may choose to visit the Viking town or have more time on our scheduled stops to soak up the natural beauty of the western fjords.

Detailed itinerary

Starting out from port in Flåm, where your private driver-guide meets you and takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the busy cruise ship destination. Before your trip starts, the guide will lead you to Flåm embankment and show / recommend places to go and things to do in Flåm. Flåmsbana Museum – dedicated to the famous Flåm railway – is one of the places you could visit after the tour. Your tour starts: First, going by car via Gudvangen to the Stalheim hotel.

Our next stop is at Stalheim Hotel, an establishment which history is closely related to postal service in Norway and goes back all the way to 1647. The hotel and its outlook terrace are closed from the end of September till May. We can visit another view point close by - a short walk up a moderately steep path is required.

If you like hiking, we can include hiking down the road Stalheimskleiva (This road is temporarily closed due to an avalanche, but it is possible to walk down the road), from where you can see two waterfalls: Stalheimsfossen and Sivlefossen.

After breathing in the freshness of the waterfall, your next stop is in the ancient Viking Town of Gudvangen, where the spectacular Nærøyfjord begins (UNESCO World Heritage list). You can choose to spend more time in Gudvangen by visiting the Viking Town of Njardarheimr, where you can meet the real modern-day Vikings and learn about their history and culture. The visit is optional, and the entrance fee is not included in the price (adults: 20 EUR / 22 USD, children: 10 EUR / 11 USD). Alternatively, we can make more and longer stops and have more time to soak up the natural beauty of the western fjords.

From Gudvangen your guide drives your to the Stegastein viewpoint at 2130 feet (650 m) above sea level, from where you can marvel at the view of the Aurlandsfjord.

From Stegastein viewpoint we take road down to Aurland – local administrative center – and back to Flåm, where the tour ends.

Duration of the whole tour: approximately 4,5 hours.
