The ride uphill only is an adventure by itself, the incredible steepness of the volcano guarantees a spectacular 4x4 ride. You will see coffee plantations and later on the cloud forest. The views are spectacular from here.
When you arrive at the top at 1,200 mts the temperature will have dropped significantly and the humidity will be high. It’s always windy, so be sure to bring an extra sweater. At the top there is a tourist center which houses maps, photos, models, souvenirs, and more interesting material. There is also a cafeteria where you can get a small meal and drinks, use the bathroom.
The Mombacho volcano has four craters. All of the craters are covered with cloud forest and you can walk around one of the craters, or hike around several craters. Besides lots of different trees and plants that thrive because of the cloud forests humidity you can also observe howler and white face monkeys, as well as snakes, deer, reptiles, birds, and insects.

The Crater Trial offers the opportunity to walk through the only cloud forest in the Pacific of Nicaragua.
You'll begin to climb the volcano by 4x4 truck, stopping for a delicious local coffee at one of the plantations along the way. Once near the top you'll enjoy a short, one and half hour guided hike along the trail, passing through a variety of landscapes. We may see howler monkeys and white-faced monkeys, sloths, dart frogs, and the endemic Mombacho salamander along the way.
The dwarf forest has fumaroles and it is possible to encounter flora and fauna of the local ecosystem. Towards the North you can see the city of Granada, the Islets of Granada, the Asese Peninsula, the Apoyo Lagoon and the Masaya Volcano National Park.
