Detailed itinerary

Stop 1

Visit the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), the holiest shrine of Sikhism, located in the heart of Amritsar. Built in the 16th century by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the temple is partially covered in gold and surrounded by the sacred Amrit Sarovar (holy tank). Explore the spiritual and historical highlights of the complex, including the Akal Takht, the highest seat of Sikh temporal authority; the Dukh Bhanjani Beri, a sacred tree believed to relieve suffering; and the Langar Hall, where free meals are served daily to thousands of visitors. Take a peaceful walk along the parikrama around the holy tank, admire the architectural beauty of the temple entrances, and see statues and memorials, including that of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, celebrating the rich Sikh heritage. This visit offers a unique opportunity to experience Sikh spirituality, history, and hospitality in one remarkable setting.

2

Dukh Bhanjani Beri is a sacred berry tree (Jujube tree) located in the Golden Temple complex, Amritsar. The name means “Tree that Dispels Suffering”. According to Sikh tradition, the fifth Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, blessed this tree, and it is believed that devotees who pray here are relieved of their pains and sufferings. Pilgrims often touch the tree and offer prayers, making it an important spiritual spot within the Harmandir Sahib complex.

3

Akal Takht is one of the five Takhts (seats of authority) of Sikhism and is located within the Golden Temple complex, Amritsar. Its name means “Throne of the Timeless One”. Established by Guru Hargobind Ji in 1606, the Akal Takht serves as the highest temporal seat of Sikh authority, where important religious and political decisions are made. It symbolizes justice, sovereignty, and the unity of the Sikh community, complementing the spiritual role of the Golden Temple.

Jallianwala Bagh is a historic public garden in Amritsar, located near the Golden Temple. It is remembered for the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 13 April 1919, when British troops opened fire on a peaceful gathering, killing hundreds of innocent civilians. Today, the site stands as a national memorial, preserving bullet marks and the Martyrs’ Well, and serves as a powerful symbol of India’s struggle for freedom and sacrifice.

5

Khalsa College, Amritsar is one of the most prestigious and historic educational institutions in India, established in 1892. Renowned for its stunning Indo-Saracenic architecture, the college was founded to promote modern education while preserving Sikh values and Punjabi culture. Spread over a large, beautifully landscaped campus, Khalsa College has played an important role in India’s freedom movement and has produced many notable leaders, scholars, and professionals. Today, it remains a symbol of academic excellence, heritage, and pride of Punjab, and is often admired by visitors for its architectural beauty as well as its historical significance.

6

The War Memorial in Amritsar, officially known as the Punjab State War Heroes’ Memorial and Museum, is a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. Located on the Amritsar–Attari road, the memorial honors warriors from ancient times to the modern Indian Armed Forces. It features a tall sword-shaped monument, galleries showcasing military history, war memorabilia, and stories of Punjab’s heroes. The site stands as a symbol of courage, patriotism, and respect for martyrs, offering visitors a meaningful insight into India’s military heritage.
