Cabrillo National Monument, located on the Point Loma Peninsula in San Diego, commemorates the first European expedition to set foot on the West Coast of the United States. On September 28, 1542, Spanish explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo landed at San Diego Bay, marking a pivotal moment in California's history. The Midway served in the Vietnam War, Cold War operations, and Operation Desert Storm in 1991 before being decommissioned in 1992.
