Stop 2

Your first stop in the morning is Bodrum Castle. Bodrum Castle was built by the Knights of St. John, who were also known as the Knights Hospitaller. Those were the same people who built Kos Castle in Greece earlier.
Originally known as the Castle of St. Peter, this landmark was actually built to serve as a fortress and its construction spanned from 1406 to 1523, which meant that it took more than a century to build.
Since the construction was so arduous, knights from various countries came together to build the fortress. When you walk through Bodrum Castle, you’ll notice this on the map, as each of the towers were named after the countries who took part in the construction! (French, German, Italian, English, and Spanish Towers)
The castle was used for more than 120 years, until it was captured by the Ottoman army in 1532. From then on, the building served as a garrison base and a prison from the mid-1500s to 1895.

Stop 3

At the top of the stairs is a building that houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. This is one of the most popular attractions ‘inside’ Bodrum Castle, as it contains hundreds of underwater discoveries from the Aegean Sea.

It’s the biggest museum of its kind and has a collection of amphoras, glass items, metal weapons, treasures and even a life-sized shipwreck. In fact, the shipwreck is one of the oldest in the world!

One of your favorite features of the museum are the mini documentary videos that play on a loop. You can take a seat and watch the videos, which feature interviews from people who participated in excavation expeditions of the items found in the museum.

4

Visit the Windmills.
A trip to Bodrum, Turkey, would not be complete without a visit to one of its most famous landmarks. Prominently sitting high on a hill of the Bodrum peninsula are the windmills. While they have long gone out of service, the windmills are a must-see stop for thousands of tourists each year. For some, they are a glimpse into history and culture. For others, it is a chance to see the vast land from a new perspective. Then finally, for some, they are simply a beautiful spot for grabbing some great vacation pictures.

5
Stop 5

The people of ancient times would gather at the amphitheaters for theater, spectacles, gladiator fights, and any number of public shows. The Bodrum Amphitheater became a cultural center during ancient times. Today, the amphitheater is experiencing new life as it continues to serve its original purpose. Climb the steps or see a concert to walk in the steps of those who have visited the theater centuries before.
The Bodrum Antique Theatre dates back to the 4th century BC. King Mausolos is credited with its building. It has a classic Greco-Roman design that you see in amphitheaters from that time. During this time, it had the name Theatre at Halicarnassus.

At the time of its building, it could accommodate 13,000 spectators. People would gather to watch theatrical performances or fighting gladiators.

The theater experienced a new life in 1973 when the Turkish government excavated and renovated the theater. Today, its capacity is slightly smaller at 10,000 people.

Shopping tour at Bar streets.
The Bodrum Peninsula' shopping scene is renowned all over the Aegean coast as fun, exciting, and addictive. From funky street corner boutiques to the local village's weekly pazaars to a couple of upscale shopping malls, you won't find it hard to find chic, trendy clothes, pick up some souvenirs or empty your purse while getting GREAT bargains on just about anything you'd like. Additionally, the currency exchange rates are often unbelievable and that makes your shopping that much more fun and guilt-free.

Once back home, the rewards of your souvenir shopping will most assuredly endear you to your loved ones come birthdays etc. and will serve to remind you of your time in Turkey. After many people go home, they write back to friends here asking them to send 'this or that' as they SHOULD have gotten more of them when here. Many brand-named items are made here in Turkey because of the quality of materials and the lower production costs.

A great way to end the day with a Turkish coffee, watching the sunset at the best spot in town; at The Marmara's terrace.
