The tour starts with a pick-up from your hotel or address in Sofia at 9:30. The first stop will be the National History Museum – it is located in the outskirts of the town, in the footsteps of the Vitosha mountain, about 30 minutes’ drive from the city center. The museum hosts more than 650 000 exhibits! Probably the two most famous and important are: the Varna golden treasure – the oldest golden treasure in the word, dating back to the 5 millennium BC, as well as the Panagyurishte golden treasure – one of the richest in Europe. The guided visit in the museum is about 1 hour and it will take you through all of the major historical periods, related to the Bulgarian lands.
After the museum visit, you will go to the city center for a 2-hours walking tour, during which you will see all of the important historical sites and learn interesting facts about them: Saint Alexander Nevsky Catehdral, Saint Sofia Basilica, Saint George Rotunda, the Parliament, the formal Royal residence, the National theater, the Largo complex, the Roman remains, the old mineral baths and others. The tour ends near the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
The total tour duration (4 hours) also includes the traveling time to the National History Museum - 30 minutes in each direction.
