Herceg Novi, a picturesque coastal town in Montenegro, is known for its stunning landscapes and rich history. Among its unique features are the enigmatic submarine tunnels that date back to the Cold War era. Originally constructed for military purposes, these tunnels were designed to provide a safe haven for submarines and strategic naval operations. Today, they serve as intriguing remnants of the past, attracting adventurous visitors and history enthusiasts. As you explore these underwater passages, you can gain insight into the region’s complex history, while enjoying the stunning views of the Adriatic Sea above.
Mamula Island, located at the entrance of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, is a small, yet captivating island steeped in history. Originally home to a fortress built in the mid-19th century by Austrian General Mamula, the island has served various purposes over the years, including a military prison during World War II. Today, its picturesque landscapes and crumbling stone structures create a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere. Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, Mamula Island is a popular destination for adventurous travelers looking to explore its historical ruins and enjoy the serene natural environment.
The Blue Cave (Plava Špilja) is a stunning natural sea cave located on the Lustica Peninsula in Montenegro, near the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. Known for its mesmerizing azure blue waters and unique light effects, the cave can be accessed only by boat and is a popular tourist attraction. When sunlight enters through an underwater opening, it creates a magical blue reflection that illuminates the entire cave, making the water appear an intense, vibrant blue color. The cave is approximately 9 meters high and 15 meters wide, and visitors can swim in its crystal-clear waters during boat tours.
Our Lady of the Rock is one of the two islets off the coast of Perast in Bay of Kotor, Montenegro (the other being Sveti Đorđe Island). It is an artificial island created by bulwark of rocks and by sinking old and seized ships loaded with rocks.
