We continue along the sea towards Guincho beach. Windsurfing and Kite surfing championships are held here every year. We continue along the mountains that surround this beach, towards Cabo da Roca. This is the westernmost point in continental Europe and has a breathtaking view of the coast line and the Atlantic. Between Guincho beach and Cape Roca there is a surprise.
By the way, on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, almost at the same Latitude is New York.
We continue through Sintra/Cascais natural reserve towards Colares wine region(There is also a surprise on this route). This Regional cellar makes wine from the westernmost vineyards in Europe. The proximity to the ocean and the sandy soil make the Colares wines very unique ones. Working since 1931 they preserve the cellar as it was. Lunch.
Did you know that this wine region was the only survivor to the Phylloxera plague that decimated all vineyards across Europe?
Next we'll visit the romantic town of Sintra and taste the regional sweets. Writers such as Lord Byron and Hans Christian Andersen and the composer Franz Schubert passed through here.
