Stop 1

As a main sightseeing of Azerbaijan we must to begin our tour from this point. Why Maiden tower? When was built? For what? And how? Waht is that? If you want we might buy a ticket and go to the top of the tower, from where we will observe all the old city part and new city as well. Be aware that tower has a narrow upstaits and no elavator of course))

Just next to the Maiden tower and remains of Saint Bartholomew chapel there are an open museum where exibits presented. More than 50 grave stones were found here. Locals cals this please a market place. The place where the merchants during Great Silk road had trayed.

In distant past when the great silk road passed in front of the Maiden tower, merchants especially from multan city stayed inside of this little fortress, where security of their accomidities and themselves was provided!

Why Bukhara? Under influence of Tatato-mongol troops - general Tamerlan who captured the territory of modern Azerbaijan. That is why it has name of city in Uzbekistan.

Since begining of 19 century Azerbaijan was annexed by Russian Empire, untill this time this city within the city was ruled by Bakuvian khans. Since 1747 till 1806 khans lived in this facinating building.

Situated just next to the main entrance of the old city! On the left side from the Double gates you may visit underground bathhouse of the 17 century!

Walking pass you may notice how people are standing next to the wall where a big lion head is depicted. This is the place of Ali Shamsi art gallery.

Since 2000 year Old city of Baku, The Shirvansah Palace and The Maiden tower has entered into the list of world herritage of UNESCO. The Palce was built between 12 and 15 centuries, was damaged few times and last time resumed in 2004. The place where middle ages Shirvan state's kings were living with their servants. During the tour we do not go inside of the Palace, because the area is more than a hectare, need to spend at least an hour here extra.

In this museum you can see books size of nail even smaller. Since 2014 was included to the World Guinness book, like a biggest collection of miniature books in the world! Smallest Holy Koran of the 17 sentury is here to!

An Azerbaijani great poet who did a big contribution in sateric poetry! This statue has name "Tree of life" How life begin and end is depicted in head of Aliagha Vahid!

All Russian speaking guests visit old city and may ask you to show you the place of "Damn it" the place where the most popular part of soviet comedy movie "Brilliant hand" was shot in 1968! In old city there are several bathhouses were built hundreds of years ago, and just one of them still functioning as a bathhouse - hammam. Since 18th century until present.

Azerbaijan is famous by pomegranate wine. We may visit and degustate it if you wish!

Vagif Mustafazadeh had a short life but was wordwide famous because he mixed Azerbaijanian folk music of Mugam with an American jazz!

The oldest mosque in old city was built in 11 century on the place probably of the ancient zoroastrian fire temple. Because under the prayer hall was fount tracec of fire and some spirutal artifacts. Known as a broken tower between local inhabitants. Why? I will let you know of course!

The single mosque where women allowed to pray inside of the Old city. The main, and biggest mosque in old city which was built in 12 century. Was restored in the beginning of the 20 century.

Once 28 mosques were in this small city. But nowadays just some of we can visit or even see. This mosque is under reconstruction, but was built in 12 century by Ibragim Ashur, more known as Lezgian mosque.
