The North Gate where Muslim Quarter is located was originally the government district of the Qing Dynasty. In the late 1990s, some Muslim people rented houses on this street to run restaurants. As a result, Lianhu District shifted its focus towards a restaurant street, and Beiyuanmen thus became a Muslim people's Street.
Xi 'an Muslim Quartert, as one of the representatives of Xi 'an's local style, is a general term for several streets in the Muslim district. It is composed of several streets such as Beiguangji Street, Beiyuanmen, Xiyangshi, Dapiyuan, Huajue Lane, and Sajin Bridge.
