Takachiho Gorge is a steep-sided gorge located in Miyazaki Prefecture, formed by the erosion of pyroclastic flows from the eruption of Mount Aso by the Gokase River. The gorge features cliffs approximately 80 to 100 meters high stretching for about 7 kilometers and has been designated as a national “Place of Scenic Beauty” and “Natural Monument.” The gorge is home to “Mana-i Falls,” selected as one of Japan's Hundred Famous Waterfalls, and features stunning columnar jointed cliffs. Visitors can explore the area via walking trails or private boats, immersing themselves in the mystical scenery and the raw power of nature.
Takachiho Amaterasu Railway is an attraction located in Takachiho Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, utilizing the facilities of the defunct Takachiho Railway. Visitors can enjoy a 30-minute train ride on an open-top “Grand Super Cart” converted from a light truck, traveling back and forth along a 5 km section to Takachiho Bridge. Features include breathtaking views of the canyon and mountains from the approximately 105-meter-high bridge, sections of the floor made of glass offering a view of the tracks, and illumination inside the tunnel.

Amanoyasukawara is a large cave located in Takachiho Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, which served as the setting for the Japanese myth “Amanoiwato Myth.” It is said to be the place where the eight million gods gathered to discuss what to do when Amaterasu Omikami hid herself in the cave, plunging the world into darkness. Also known as “Gyobogaiwa,” the cave now features a mystical landscape of countless stacked stones, and there is a custom of stacking stones with a wish, which is said to come true.
