Detailed itinerary

1

Nyoirin-ji Temple is a Jodo sect temple located on Mt. Yoshino in Nara Prefecture, with ties to the Southern Court. It is known as the imperial temple of Emperor Go-Daigo. The tomb of Emperor Go-Daigo is located within the temple grounds, and the temple has deep historical ties to the Yoshino area. At the same time, the temple grounds are lined with approximately 10,000 humorous frog statues, and the temple is affectionately known as “Frog Temple.”

2

The Yufu-dake trailhead is the starting point for climbing to the summit, and the most commonly used trailhead is the Yufu-dake Main Trailhead. The Main Trailhead is easily accessible, with a parking lot and restrooms, and is characterized by a course that is relatively safe even for beginners. It is also accessible by bus from JR Yufuin Station and Beppu Station.

3

Yufuin is a popular tourist destination located at the foot of Mt. Yufu in central Oita Prefecture, known for its rich natural environment and hot springs. Designated as a National Health Resort Hot Spring Area, it boasts one of the largest numbers of hot spring sources and the highest volume of hot spring water in the country, with simple hot springs and alkaline simple hot springs being the main types. In addition to the hot springs, the area features the mystical Kinryu Lake, where hot spring water bubbles up from the lake bottom, the Yuno-tani Street lined with unique shops, and rural landscapes with Yufu Mountain as a backdrop, offering numerous spots where visitors can enjoy both nature and art. It is known as a quiet and serene hot spring resort.

4

Kinrin Lake is a representative scenic spot of Yufuin Onsen in Oita Prefecture, Japan. Its name originates from the sight of fish scales glistening with golden light at sunset, as observed by Confucian scholar Mori Kōsō during the Meiji period. This small lake is renowned for its autumn foliage, the ethereal morning mist that envelops it in winter, and the hot spring water that bubbles up from its depths, attracting countless visitors to admire its beauty. Visitors can stroll along the lake, taking in the scenic views, and also visit the Tenzo Shrine, which is home to the torii gate in the lake.

5

Hell's Pool is a famous geothermal attraction in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, Japan. It is named for its cobalt blue color, which comes from the high concentration of iron sulfate in the pool water. Although it looks cool, the water temperature is as high as 98°C. It was formed by the eruption of Mt. Tsurumi about 1,200 years ago and is one of the main attractions on Beppu's “Hell Tour” route. The scenic area features walking paths, foot baths, greenhouses, exhibition halls, and shops. Visitors can admire tropical plants and lotus flowers, as well as sample “hot spring eggs” steamed in the thermal waters.

6

The Kitchen Hell is one of the eight great hells of Beppu City, Japan, named after the ancient practice of using its steam to cook food during local rituals. This hell features six distinct styles of hellish landscapes from 1-chome to 6-chome, including hot mud and blue pools, and offers experiences such as foot baths, drinkable hot spring water, and hot spring cuisine.
