Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is dedicated to the God of Learning, Sugawara no Michizane, and serves as the main shrine among the approximately 12,000 Tenmangu Shrines across Japan. This is Kyushu's largest shrine and attracts numerous visitors from around the world.

The shrine features the vermilion-painted main hall, historical structures like Tenka Inari Shrine and the Treasure Hall, and natural beauty including camphor trees, ume (plum blossoms), and irises. The sacred "Flying Plum Tree," said to have flown overnight from Kyoto out of devotion to Sugawara no Michizane, is a must-see.

Visitors often come here to pray for academic success, especially during exam seasons when the gates are adorned with prayer plaques (Ema). Don’t miss tasting the famous "Umegae Mochi," a sweet treat filled with red bean paste, or visit the Dazaifu-exclusive Ichiran Ramen branch featuring the unique “Five-Bowl Set” (symbolizing success).
