About this experience

Khajuraho is a town in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, located about 385 miles southeast of New Delhi. It has the country's largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, famous for their erotic sculptures.  The Khajuraho Group of Monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 and is considered one of the "seven wonders" of India. The monuments in this area are divided into three groups:  Eastern, Western and Southern.  Today we will be visiting the Western group of temples.  The western complex of the Khajuraho group of temples houses the most important temples in Khajuraho.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Khajuraho and driven to the Western Cluster of Temples. The Western cluster of temples consists of the most important temples of Khajuraho.

The Kandariya Mahadeva is the largest and most magnificent temple in Khajuraho.

Devi Jagdambi Temple is much smaller.

The striking Lakshman Temple is one of the three largest temples of Khajuraho and the western group of temples.  

Devi Mandap is a small shrine located opposite the large Lakshman Temple. Another small shrine is the Varaha Mandap.  

Chousath Yogini Temple is dedicated to 64 Yoginis The Chousath Yogini Temple, built in granite, is one of the oldest temples in Khajuraho.  Set in an open courtyard on the bank of the Shivsagar Lake with small temples surrounding it, this one is the only temple which is not oriented due north south.

The Chitragupta temple is an 11th century temple dedicated to Surya, the Sun God.

Your guided tour concludes with a transfer back to your hotel in Khajuraho.
