Next, arrive at the Hitome Hakkei Observation Deck, one of Japan’s most famous autumn viewing spots. Here, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of valleys, rivers, and cliffs painted in brilliant red and gold. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at your own pace while soaking in the views.

In the afternoon, cross the Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge, Japan’s highest pedestrian suspension bridge. The stunning 360-degree view of fall-colored ravines and waterfalls makes this walk thrilling and photogenic.

Detailed itinerary

1

This 185-meter-long tunnel was carved by a single monk over 30 years during the Edo period. Surrounded by towering cliffs and painted in fall colors, the walk through this hand-hewn passage offers a blend of history, legend, and seasonal beauty. The dim lighting and raw rock textures add an atmospheric charm.

2

“Hitome Hakkei” means “Eight Views at a Glance,” and that’s exactly what you’ll get here—rivers, cliffs, valleys, and distant peaks all in a single view. During autumn, the landscape explodes with color. You’ll also have time for lunch here with local food stalls and restaurants nearby.

3

At 173 meters high and 390 meters long, this is Japan’s highest pedestrian suspension bridge. As you walk across, panoramic views of the forested valley, waterfalls, and autumn foliage stretch in all directions. It’s both an adrenaline rush and a photographer’s dream.

4

This important Shinto shrine is dedicated to the god of learning, attracting students and tourists year-round. In autumn, the maple trees lining the paths turn brilliant shades of red and orange. Don’t miss the sacred ox statues, traditional architecture, and peaceful pond garden.
