One of Lisbon's most prominent landmarks, St. George's Castle, casts a striking silhouette against the skyline, commanding attention day and night from its perch atop the hill overlooking the neighborhoods of Castelo and Alfama. While exploring St. George's Castle, take the opportunity to walk a short distance to the Lisbon Cathedral, enriching your visit with an additional glimpse into the city's rich history.

2
Stop 2

Alfama is the charismatic fado district in Lisbon's historic center, known for its delightful maze of yellow cobbled streets and steep hills stretching from Baixa to Castelo de São Jorge. Within this labyrinth of alleys, you'll find numerous ancient buildings, charming plazas, shops, restaurants, and cafes. Key attractions include São Jorge Castle, the Sé Cathedral, and the Miradouro das Portas do Sol, among many others. Exploring Alfama on foot is the best way to fully experience its unique charm and history.

3
Stop 3

A grand square that is considered the heart of the city. This historic square was once the site of the royal palace and is now home to government offices, restaurants, and shops.

4
Stop 4

An elegant and charming neighborhood in the historic center, this area invites you to stroll through streets lined with 18th-century buildings. Here, you can browse designer fashion boutiques, explore antique bookshops, and relax in cafés that once served as meeting places for writers, poets, and intellectuals. Visit the oldest bookstore in the world and enjoy a coffee at the famous café A Brasileira, where the poet Fernando Pessoa used to frequent. Additionally, you can explore the ruins of Convento do Carmo and visit Camões Square, among many other attractions.

5
Stop 5

Bairro Alto, adjacent to Chiado, is known locally as the party district. This traditional area of the historic center features a maze of narrow cobbled streets. Here, you'll find historical sights and culinary delights from around the world. By day, it's a quiet residential neighborhood, but by night, it comes alive with many of the city's best bars, restaurants, and fado clubs. Some parts are best explored on foot. Key attractions include Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, Elevador da Bica, Jardim do Príncipe Real, and Cais do Sodré, among many others.

Historic area located on the outskirts of the city that's home to some of Lisbon's most iconic landmarks.

7
Stop 7

In Belém, west of Lisbon, you can explore the majestic Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, which took nearly a hundred years to complete and is the final resting place of the famous explorer Vasco da Gama and celebrated poet Luís de Camões. You'll also visit the iconic Torre de Belém, a former fort guarding the Tejo Estuary, now a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983. Additionally, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos monument, located along the river and marina, celebrates the Portuguese Age of Discovery.

8
Stop 8

The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, located in the Belém district of Lisbon, is a stunning example of Manueline architecture and a symbol of Portugal's Age of Discovery. Construction began in 1501 and took nearly a century to complete. The monastery was built to commemorate Vasco da Gama's successful voyage to India and to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for its success. It is also the final resting place of the famous explorer Vasco da Gama and the celebrated poet Luís de Camões, both of whom are interred here.
A visit to the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos offers a glimpse into Portugal's rich maritime past and artistic heritage, making it a must-see landmark in Lisbon.

We could not leave Belém without giving you to taste the delicious Pastéis de Belém, one of the wonders of the national gastronomy.
