Visit the headquarters of our company are situated at the Bassaqueira estate. In 1997, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal settled in this viticultural area of Azeitão, in the heart of the Setúbal Peninsula.
The main building is hexagonal in shape with an innovative design and execution both for the winery itself and its offices. It is both creative and efficient, which sets off to perfection the traditional magical atmosphere of cellars where thousands of bottles and seemingly endless rows of casks are laid down for the ageing of wine.
The vineyards surrounding the property are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah varieties of grapes. The wine-making centre processes grapes from the estate and also grapes from all its properties situated in the Setúbal Peninsula. This is the centre of operations for the bottling and warehousing of the finished product. It is extensive and spreads over a number of buildings, including areas for the reception of grapes and classical wine making, fermentation in barrels, warehousing, bottling preparation, bottling lines, ageing of fortified wines and ageing in bottles.
In addition to these various production areas, the estate includes the company's central winery, a wine shop, various sculptures, ruins of interest, panels of hand-painted Portuguese tiles, vineyards and a lake. All these stand in magnificent gardens, outstanding features of which are the thousand-year-old olive trees. It is this harmonious diversity which renders the Bassaqueira estate unique. An absolute must to visit and the ticket and wine tasting are included in tour price.
