Detailed itinerary

1

Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation either in Baile Tusnad or Miercurea Ciuc and transfer you to the Land of Volcanoes.

2

In one of the twin craters of the Csomád Mountain was formed Central Europe`s only volcanic lake, the charming Saint Anne Lake. Its surface is about 949-950 m above sea level and it is part of the Mohos Nature Reserve. Its charm for tourists has the roots into the legends surrounding this place, the beautiful landscape, the healing properties and into the fact that it is also a great place to get in touch with nature and relax.

The locals believe that if you have a bath in the water the fairy of the lake will protect you for a year.

3

Then follows a guided tour in the special nature reserve Mohos Peat-Bog formed in the other crater of the Csomád Mountain. Here is the best place for admiring fantastic plant rarities, carnivore plants, round leaved moor-grass and more than 20 types of sphagnaceae. You can also find bog berry, pine, marsh berry, bog-rosemary from the ice age.

4

After exploring these natural attractions, we ride 10 km to the wild and enchanting Balvanyos Resort. Due to the post-volcanic phenomenon, this area is the country of mineral waters, baths and moffets, where one can find a wide variety of waters containing iron, alkaline mineral salts, and even mildly radio-active waters with therapeutic effects. The inhabitants of the area have used these natural resources in curative purposes for hundreds of years. First we climb up to the Sulphurous Cave, which is the world's most active moffet, daily emanating more than 4000 m3 gas. On the forest trail we go down to the Apor Daughters Bath, where we find mineral springs with chemical composition considered to be unique in Europe. Optionally you can dine in the 4 star Grand Hotel Balvanyos.

5

At the end of the tour your guide will drive you back to your accommodation in Baile Tusnad.

6

Those who require can opt for drop-off in Miercurea Ciuc free of charge.
