The Blue Pond, located on the left bank of the Biei River, is a serene body of water created by a dam constructed to intercept volcanic magma. Under the sunlight, the pond reflects a mesmerizing blue hue, earning its name. Captured by National Geographic photographer Kent Shiraishi, the pond’s image was later acquired by Apple and became one of the default wallpapers for the MAC series. Rich in volcanic ash minerals and sediment, the Blue Pond changes color with the environment, offering a new spectacle at every moment.
Marvel at Japan’s rare "underground waterfall" where aluminum-rich springs cascade like white threads into turquoise waters. The contrast between the roaring falls and serene Blue River will leave you spellbound.
Experience the thrill of Roller Coaster Road, a 2.5-kilometer stretch with dramatic elevation changes that have earned it a spot among the top eight scenic views of Kamifurano. The road’s undulating hills, reminiscent of a roller coaster ride, are flanked by majestic mountains and expansive pastoral landscapes, making it a popular route for enjoying the splendor of Hokkaido’s scenery.
