Three terracotta pits have been excavated and are open to the public.
Pit 1, the largest, is believed to contain 6,000 terracotta warriors (only 2,000 are on display) and their war horses. These warriors are life-size, facing east and arranged in battle formation. Particularly striking is the uniqueness of each warrior.
Pit 2, smaller than Pit 1, contains approximately 1,300 terracotta warriors and is still under excavation. Notably, the generals, mounted soldiers, and kneeling soldiers are new to this pit.
Pit 3, the smallest (represented by the museum and 3D cinema), contains 72 terracotta warriors and is believed to have served as the military headquarters of the time, due to the numerous high-ranking generals unearthed.
