Detailed itinerary

1

This tour is a walking tour, so you will meet our guide in front of Starbucks at Heritage Walk, a centrally-located shopping mall in Siem Reap at 8:30 AM.

2

After meeting our guide, we will walk to the Royal Residence and its spiritual house (“Phreah Ang Chek, Phreah Ang Chom”). You will get a comprehensive tour of this sacred site, and our guide will explain how local people come to the spiritual house for fortune-telling and grief counseling. The Royal Residence with its spiritual house is considered one of the most important and sacred locations for people in Siem Reap and is well-known across Cambodia.

3

After visiting the Royal Residence and its spiritual house, we will walk toward our first breakfast stop and cross the Royal Gardens, located right in front of the Royal Residence.

4

As we continue, we will also pass by the Grand Hotel d’Angkor, one of the first luxury hotels that opened in 1932 and has since then welcomed travelers from around the world coming to Siem Reap to visit the Angkor temples.

5

After visiting the Royal Residence and passing by the Royal Gardens and the Grand Hotel d’Angkor, we will cross the Siem Reap River to our first breakfast stop and get to try one of the most famous Khmer dishes, Num Banh Chok: Num Banh Chok is a Cambodian rice noodle dish, most commonly enjoyed for breakfast, but also served throughout the day. Num Banh Chok is all about the interplay of textures and flavors - the cool noodles are bathed in the warm curry soup, and then topped with fresh herbs and vegetables. What a delicious and refreshing way to start your day!

6

After the first breakfast stop, we will continue our walk along Wat Bo Street, where you can observe the busy local city life and pass by different shops. Our guide will also share current information about daily life in Cambodia and explain to you how the city has developed over time.

7

At our next breakfast spot, you can try Beef Stew (Khor Ko) with cassava bread. Khor Ko is a delicious and flavorful meal, highlighting the unique mixture of spices and ingredients used in Khmer cuisine. A perfect mixture of salty, sweet, and slightly spicy tastes, Khor Ko provides inside warmth. In a narrow backyard just off the big road, we will try a delicious Khor Ko, bread, and local coffee. Enjoy your second breakfast stop surrounded by local people!

8

After our second breakfast stop, we will continue to explore the city by the river, and our guide will share with you the different purposes of the river for local events and celebrations.

9

We are heading to our third breakfast stop at the Bai Sach Chrouk store. This popular breakfast food in Cambodia is called Bai Sach Chrouk, which translates to "rice and pork" in Khmer. Steamed rice is paired with thinly sliced roasted pork, fried egg, vegetable pickle, and soup for a tasty and simple dish. You’ll try one plate each, and again, this is our last breakfast stop for our tour this morning.

10

After the third breakfast stop, we will continue our stroll through the city, witnessing additional busy local shops. One of the most fascinating shops is the local handmade basket shop, which is near our last stop and where you can understand the various uses of handmade basket products in Cambodian daily life with explanations from our guide.

11

After walking and enjoying a lot of food, it's time to try Cambodian dessert at one of the local restaurant shops. Our guide will choose a famous dessert that locals normally have after their meal and explain the details about it. This is also the time to ask any additional questions to our guide for further explanations.

12

We will end our tour at one of the local markets, called Old Markt, or Psa Chas, where you can truly learn about the functions and importance of a market for everyday life in the area, as well as its origins and methods of cultivation of local produce. The atmosphere is lively, and it's a fantastic spot to observe the day-to-day life of Siem Reap residents. As the tour comes to an end, our guide will give you a recommendation to the local restaurant to have lunch around that Old Market if you are still hungry after our tour, or you can continue with your city explorations for further sightseeing or shopping.
