Laguna de Salinas is a high salt Andean lake that receives the waters of an endorheic basin, located between snowy mountains and volcanoes. Open bogs known as bofedales surround the lagoon, being an important plant formation for grazing native camelids such as vicuñas and llamas, as well as habitat for the endemic fish Orestias agassizii and Chilean flamingo.
In the Lagoon you can observe birds during and after the rainy season in that period where the artisanal collection or salt collection begins.
When the lagoon is dry, the charm is different, we see the blue sky surrounded by volcanoes with a dry white lagoon full of salt.
Here we can see the three different species of flamingos, this can be seen only in this lagoon and not in another part of the world. To be more specific, this does not happen even in the most famous “flamingos lake” in Africa (nakuru and naivasha, in kenya) since there can only be observed two species.
During the day we will have a box lunch in the middle of nature.
Then we return to the city of Arequipa. Arrival to the city of Arequipa approx. 05:00 PM
Pickup from your accommodation in Arequipa city center, or a meeting point will be set.
