Our bike tour begins in the picturesque Portuguese town of Nazaré, known for its giant waves and traditional fishing boats. Leaving the coastline behind, we'll head inland along country roads, breathing in the fresh air of rural Portugal. The road will take us through wide fields, gradually changing into well-maintained apple orchards, where we can catch the sweet scent of ripening fruit.
Our destination is Alcobaça, a historic town with a rich heritage. Here, you’ll find one of Portugal’s most impressive monasteries – Alcobaça Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This grand Cistercian monastery, founded in 1153, amazes with its Gothic architecture and towering columns. Inside, you'll find the famous tombs of King Pedro I and his beloved Inês de Castro, whose tragic and romantic story has become one of the most iconic in Portuguese history.
You should arrive at 9:30 to set up the bike and get ready. We start at 10, and the travel time to the monastery will be 1 hour. After coming to the Alcobaca city we will visit its main sight - the Monastery of Alcobaca. We will do a walk around for about 30 minutes, take some pictures and know some cultural and historical facts about this place.
The Jardim do Amor in Alcobaça is forever linked to Portugal's most tragic love story—the forbidden romance between Prince Pedro and Inês de Castro, who would secretly meet in this enchanted garden during the 14th century. Legend says their passionate love affair, which ended with Inês's murder and Pedro's later coronation of her corpse as queen, still haunts these romantic gardens where visitors can feel the echo of their eternal devotion.
After we will go to the famous Maria José restaurant for lunch with great steaks.
The travel time to the restaurant will be 10-20 minutes.
