5
Stop 5

Minh Mang Tomb is in Huong Tho Commune, Huong Tra District, on the west bank of Perfume River and about 12km south of Hue City center. This place is where 2 tributaries join to form the picturesque Perfume River.

The tomb was constructed in 1840 under the order of King Minh Mang. After his death in 1841, King Thieu Tri continued the task, according to his father’s plan. The monument was finally completed 2 years later.

Touted as the most majestic of all Nguyen Dynasty royal tombs, Minh Mang Tomb is a complex of 40 constructions: palaces, temples, pavilions, etc. Many said that it’s a perfect combination of manmade and natural beauty of Hue, where architecture fits harmoniously into the surrounding landscape.

Conical hat village and incense stick village

There’s a village right near Tu Duc’s mausoleum that has been making conical hats for a very long time. And a special little surprise about these hats is that a paper cut-out is placed between the layers of woven palm leaves… it is of pictures of places around Hue or a poem. Therefore, these hats are sometimes called poem hats. The poem or shapes are only visible when you hold the hat up to the light.
These hats are very practical for Vietnamese weather – they shade the face, but allow airflow around the head and in downpours they act like a veranda, sending the run-off out from the face.

7
Stop 7

Dong Ba Market, a bustling shopping center in Hue, Vietnam, is one of the oldest markets and a home to a wide variety of goods ranging from traditional clothing and food to souvenirs and jewelry. The enormous Hue Market, a vital part of the local culture, is well worth a visit for its unique atmosphere!
