You will meet your guide at Station Delft. This is right next to the city center, so you can immediately start the tour.
You will make your way to the south of the city center. We will pass by a large former weapons Armory, and we'll see an office of the Dutch East India Company. Let's find out more about Delft's role in the golden days of the Dutch Republic. Also around here, we can take a look at the exact spot where Vermeer was standing when he made his painting 'View of Delft'.
As you walk north, along Delft's second-oldest canal, you will pass by several interesting locations, among them Delft's old synagogue. After that, you will find the city's Catholic Church: the Maria van Jessekerk. You'll briefly see its interior before continuing your way.
Through the Beestenmarkt, and past the former house of Johannes Vermeer, you will now reach Delft's market square. On this square, you will find The second-tallest church of The Netherlands! Do you know who's buried underneath? Your guide will tell you all about it. Also learn about that statue of a man, Hugo Grotius, and the Delft's stunning old town hall.
You will enter the famous New Church together with your guide. This is the church where the Dutch royal family is buried. If you feel like it, you can also climb its tower (about 365 steps!) for an impressive view.
When you say Delft, you say Johannes Vermeer. The master of light was born and raised here, and he is buried in Delft too. To learn a bit more about his life and his work, you will visit the Vermeer Centrum. There you will find copies of all his work.
You will have lunch in Delft's historical weighing house, right behind the old town hall. This lunch, including a drink, are included in the tour price.
From the market square, you will make your way toward the Old Church. On the way, you'll walk past Delft's former meat hall, the old house of Antony van Leeuwenhoek and Delft's second-oldest canal. Once you get there, you will enter the church and learn about the building itself and the people buried there, among them Johannes Vermeer.
On our way down the Oude Delft canal, we will pass by a heavily decorated facade, that of the Gemeenlandshuis. What is this building and why was it so important?
This place has played a deciding role in Dutch history. The Father of the Fatherland was assassinated here! Let's find out more about it.
To end this day in Delft, you will be taken to the Royal Delft museum / factory. It is not in the city center, so you will be driven there. This place is the only remaining Delft Blue manufacturer from the 17th century, from 1653. They still use the same techniques. You will learn all about it.
After visiting Royal Delft, you will be brought back to the city center, so you can spend the evening in Delft, or easily make your way to another city. See you next time!
If you want to be picked up from Amsterdam before the tour, we will contact you to coordinate the exact pick-up time and location.
