On this half-day private tour, you will discover Leiden and Delft. See the highlights of both old cities together together with our passionate guide. A transfer between the cities is included.
You'll see Leiden, known its stunning canals and classy streets. Step back in time as you explore its old center. The city that heroically survived a Spanish siege in 1574 is full of stories: it was the home of Rembrandt, the oldest university of the country, and the Pilgrim Fathers.
And you'll visit Delft, a picturesque town full of centuries-old facades, squares, churches and canals. The city of Johannes Vermeer is known for its Delft Blue pottery, the final resting place of the Orange family, and its top-rated Technical University. You'll be impressed by its charm.
You can do this tour both ways: starting in Delft or starting in Leiden. You can also choose to be picked up and dropped off somewhere else, like in Amsterdam. And remember: It is you who determines the pace of this tour.

You will meet your guide in the middle of Beestenmarkt square in Leiden. This is a 5 minute walk away from Leiden Central Station. Your tour of the city starts here.
The first thing you will see during the tour is the famous Morspoort, one of the oldest entrances to the city.
You will walk past the iconic 17th century windmill Molen de Put. This is the same type of mill that the parents of Rembrandt owned.
This square is named after the famous Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn, who used to live in Leiden. Let's find out more about it.
You will see the Stadsgehoorzaal, as You are walking on the Breestraat. This is a much used concert hall.
You cannot miss the Pieterskerk of course, the most famous church of Leiden. You will learn more about its history (going back to the 12th century!) and current use.

You will visit the exterior of the Burcht van Leiden, an old castle used for defensive purposes in war times. It is located on top of a hill and adds to the particular character of Leiden.
You will make your way to Leiden Centraal Station and board a 20 minute train to Delft.
You will make your way to the central square in Delft, Markt. There you will see the second-tallest church tower of the country, that is the final resting place of the Orange family, Delft's 17th-century town hall and much more.
On your way there, you will cross Delft's oldest and second-oldest canals.
You are now in the old beer brewing quarter of Delft. Where did the brewers go? You will also see the Old Church, perhaps the most recognizable building of the city. How old is it exactly and why is it leaning?
On your way down the Oude Delft canal, you will pass by a heavily decorated facade, that of the Gemeenlandshuis. What is this building and why was it so important?
This place has played a deciding role in Dutch history. The Father of the Fatherland has been assassinated here! Let's find out more about it.
You will make your way to the south of the city. We will pass by a large former weapons Armory of the V.O.C. Let's find out more about Delft's role in the golden days of the Dutch Republic. Also around here, we can take a look at the exact spot where Vermeer was standing when he made his painting 'View of Delft'.
You will make our way to the Beestenmarkt. This is a picturesque square, often crowded with people. They used to organize animal markets here. On your way, you will pass by some former Delft Blue pottery manufacturers, an old synagogue, and the oldest hospital of the Netherlands.
If you start the tour in Delft, you will meet your guide next to the statue of Hugo Grotius, in front of the New Church on the central market square. The tour will end in Leiden.
