About this experience

Discover Delft, Rotterdam and Gouda on a full-day private tour. You will get to know three very different, beautiful cities that all played a major role in Dutch history.

First up, you'll visit Delft, a picturesque town full of centuries-old facades, squares, churches and canals. Discover the city of Johannes Vermeer, known for its Delft Blue pottery, the final resting place of the Orange family, and its top-rated Technical University.

Rotterdam is next. You will see an interesting part of Rotterdam, our second-largest city. The city rose from the ashes or World War Two and doesn't look like Delft or Gouda at all. You will have lunch here and visit a Cubic House.

Lastly, you'll go to Gouda, with its charming town hall, fascinating weighing house and impressive church. You will explore the old city center, and your guide will tell you all about it. You end the day with a little cheese tasting there.

You can also do this tour the other way around if you let us know.

Detailed itinerary

1

Here in the center of the city, we will find The second-tallest church of The Netherlands! Do you know who's buried underneath? I'll tell you all about it. Also learn about that statue of a man, and the stunning old town hall.

2
Stop 2

We are now in the old beer brewing quarter of Delft. Where did the brewers go? We will also see the Old Church, perhaps the most recognizable building of the city. How old is it exactly and why is it so skewed? Who knows.

3
Stop 3

This place has played a deciding role in Dutch history. The Father of the Fatherland was assassinated here! Let's find out more about it.

4

On our way down the Oude Delft canal, we will pass by a heavily decorated facade, that of the Gemeenlandshuis. What is this building and why was it so important?

5
Stop 5

You will make your way to the south of the city. We will pass by a large former weapons Armory of the V.O.C. Let's find out more about Delft's role in the golden days of the Dutch Republic. Also around here, we can take a look at the exact spot where Vermeer was standing when he made his painting 'View of Delft'.

6

After an 18 minute ride, you will arrive in Rotterdam. This is the UFO-shaped train station in the market area of Rotterdam, where the city has its origins. You will start the tour of the city here.

7

You will have lunch at Loetje, together with our guide. This is included in the tour price.

8
Stop 8

Close to the modern Market Hall stands a 14th century church. Its tower miraculously survived the bombing of Rotterdam. Today, it is mostly used as an event location. You will learn of the church's history, as well as that of a famous man who was born here: Erasmus.

9
Stop 9

This building has become an icon for the city. We will enter the impressive Market Hall (Markthal). The two sides of the building contain many apartments and inside you can enjoy different foods from around the world. We will at least try some Dutch cheese! And don't forget to look up and look at one of the biggest pieces of art on the planet.

10

We will see the most prominent building in to the Old Harbour area: the White House (Het Witte Huis). This is the oldest skyscraper of Europe, dating from 1898. You will learn about its significance to the city. And if you look carefully, you can see the remnants of German bullet holes! Your guide will tell you all about it.

11

After a 20 minute ride, you will arrive in Gouda.

12

De Visbanken is an area in Gouda where fish used to be cleaned and prepared, already from 1588!

Learn about this charming place and enjoy the view.

13
Stop 13

You have probably noticed them already: the Cubic Houses. These funny apartments (by Piet Blom) are a product of the 70's, built in the 80's, and they represent a typical way of building a 'village inside a city'. We will view one of the apartments from the inside! The price is included in the tour price.

14
Stop 14

This is the longest (not tallest!) church of the Netherlands, with the first building phase starting in 1272! Learn more about the building, its history and historical significance.

15
Stop 15

You'll see the former St-Catharine's guest house that now houses Museum Gouda.

16

The tour starts at the historical weighing house of Gouda. FFcenturies, this is where farmers from the wide area used to come to get their cheese weighed on market days.

17

You'll see the charming gothic town hall of Gouda and you';; learn more about its history and significance.

18

You will end the tour with a small cheese tasting in Gouda.
