One of the few tidal mills in France
When the sea rises, a dyke retains water. It is impermeable because every year a volunteer site collects the mud to clog the dam. To grind the grain, a valve is opened to mechanically actuate the mill wheel. Barley, oats, buckwheat and wheat used to be ground here, especially from the island opposite, Benigut, where several families lived. They crossed by a causeway of which nothing remains, first looted to build houses then washed away by the tides.
