Depart from anywhere in the Greater Lisbon area on this no-rush tour. The tour departs directly for Mafra, to admire the National Palace, a UNESCO heritage site. Expect a quick and comfortable half-hour drive on the highway.
(Visit / 1st Site) Let's explore Mafra and its stunning wonder. The National Palace of Mafra is a Baroque architectural complex comprising a royal palace, basilica, convent, garden and woods. The Palace has an area of around 38,000 square meters, making it one of the largest monuments in Europe. We will visit the splendid exterior of the monument and also the interior of the 18th century grand basilica. We won't be visiting the convent, the royal palace and the gardens, which is also not optional due to the time needed to visit them, which doesn't fit in with the timetable of this tour's itinerary.
(Tasting / 1st Winery) We are now entering the countryside, through villages, hills and windmills. Suddenly, we begin to emerge into vineyards as far as the eye can see between the hills. We're in the Torres Vedras area and it's time for our first visit to a winery and the first wine tasting of the day. Enjoy!
(Visit / 3rd Site / If option selected) With much excitement on board, we now head to Caldas da Rainha, to visit its renowned, colorful and genuine local market, which takes place in the central square of this small town. In addition to the local market, we will also visit the historic center and the beautiful 19th century romantic-style open-air Park.
(Optional) It's lunchtime. Although it is not included in the tour program, we have set aside time in the program for it. We'll take care of these details once you've booked the tour.
(Visit / 2nd Site) Suddenly a rocky hill topped with a castle rises on the horizon - it's Óbidos. A land of historical importance and heritage, of beauty and authenticity.
One of the town's main attractions is its medieval castle, which dates back to the 12th century. Also dating from the 12th century, you'll discover the church of Santa Maria. The entire medieval town is surrounded by well-preserved medieval walls, offering excellent views of the surrounding countryside. The town's narrow, cobbled streets are lined with charming whitewashed houses adorned with colorful flowers, creating a picturesque setting that is perfect for exploring on foot.
The town is also known for its craft stores selling local handicrafts, ceramics and souvenirs. Here it will be hard to resist grabbing a souvenir.
(Tasting) Of course... you won't want to miss the opportunity to taste Óbidos' famous liqueur, Ginjinha, made from sour cherries and served in chocolate cups. Just enjoy it. It's on us.
(Tasting / 2nd Winery) We're back in the countryside, now among vineyards flanked by the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra de Montejunto. We're in the wine-growing area of Bombarral and Cadaval, where some of the Lisbon region's best-known wines are produced. We're going to visit another winery, this one more traditional and in keeping with the rural spirit. Ready for another wine tasting? Tapas tastings and fingerfood-style local delicacies are also available. Check the options available when booking. Cheers!
(Tasting / 3rd Cellar / If option selected) Would you like to end your day on a high note? Are you a real wine fan? Would you like to make the most of the tour and go further? Don't miss out and let's visit a third winery. We're now in the Alenquer wine area and it's really going to be worth it. Believe us. And if you really want to taste high quality wines throughout the day, choose the Premium option and you'll end your day with a distinguished wine tasting, with super attentive hosts and an extraordinary vineyard landscape. No rush... Just enjoy good wine, good company and good conversation! Memories for life!
Back to the Lisbon area. A short highway trip of about an hour. The journey takes between 10 and 12 hours, depending on the time you spent on visits and whether you decide to have lunch on site.
