The Hagia Sophia Museum (Hagia Sophia, Santa Sofia) was built in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian and plays a significant role in both the Christian and Islamic worlds. After the Ottoman conquest, the bells, altar, iconoclastic vessels, and sacrificial vessels were removed, and most of the mosaics were plastered over.
