Our first stop is the enchanting Schloss Leopoldskron, a lakeside palace steeped in history and cinematic charm. This mansion served as the visual representation of the Trapp family’s villa, hosting primarily interior scenes and the iconic moment when the children tumble into the adjacent lake. Within these walls, timeless melodies like "Edelweiss" and "My Favorite Things" were immortalized on film. To fully capture the majesty of Schloss Leopoldskron, our tour will lead you to a vantage point across the lake, offering unmatched views of this picturesque setting, both breathtaking and serene.
Our next destination provides a breathtaking panorama of Nonnberg Abbey, a location steeped in cinematic and historical significance. This very site marks the inception of the beloved narrative from the movie. As the oldest surviving convent north of the Alps, Nonnberg Abbey is not just a testament to spiritual endurance but also played a pivotal role in the film, setting the scene for the memorable melodies of “Maria” and “I Have Confidence.” Here, you will be treated to an extraordinary view encompassing the majestic Alps and the serene beauty of Nonnberg Abbey. Additionally, for those who wish to immerse themselves further, there is the option to ascend the hill to the iconic gate featured in the film.
Then on to the Frohnburg Palace, which was also chosen as the location for exterior shots of the Trapp family’s mansion. This is where Maria danced along the tree-lined Hellbrunner Allee to the song “I Have Confidence“. Today it houses part of the Mozarteum University, one of the world’s most famous music conservatories.
Continuing on, the tour takes us to the world-famous Gazebo, which now stands in the park surrounding Hellbrunn Palace. The romantic love scene between Maria and Georg was filmed inside it, as well as the scene for the song “Sixteen Going on Seventeen“.
As we continue our journey, we'll pass by the iconic Red Bull headquarters in Fuschl, offering a glimpse of the energy and innovation that defines this renowned brand.
From Hellbrunn, the tour heads out into the nearby lake district known as the Salzkammergut. The fabulous scenery around the lakes Fuschlsee and Wolfgangsee, where“Do-Re-Mi” was shot, also served as the primary backdrop for the aerial shots at the beginning of the film.
After a brief stop to take photos from a spectacular viewing platform, the Mercedes Minivan makes its way to the idyllic lakeside village of Mondsee. This is where the beautiful basilica stands in which Maria and the Baron von Trapp said, “I do” in the wedding scene.
Our final destination is the enchanting Mirabell Gardens, where unforgettable scenes from 'The Sound of Music' were brought to life. Here, amidst the lush greenery and blooming flowers, Maria and the children danced joyfully around the Pegasus Fountain, singing the beloved song 'Do-Re-Mi.' It's a moment of cinematic magic that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
